LSU football will be looking for their fourth win of the season on Saturday night when they take on Auburn in Baton Rouge.

The latest odds from WynnBET have LSU as a 3 point home favorite over Auburn.

A year ago, LSU lost to Auburn 48-11.

This year, LSU will be going up against a first-time SEC head coach in Bryan Harsin, who took over for Gus Malzahn after the 2020 season.

LSU was 1-2 against first-time SEC head coaches last season, losing to Mississippi State (Mike Leach) and Missouri (Eliah Drinkwitz).

(LSU beat Arkansas and Sam Pittman last season.)

The Tigers obviously want to avoid losing three of four games to first-time SEC head coaches.

However, that’s not the reason that losing to Auburn would be one of the worst losses of Ed Orgeron’s career.

Why losing to LSU football would be one of the worst losses of Ed Orgeron’s career

It’s unclear who will start at quarterback for Auburn on Saturday night, but there’s a good chance that former LSU quarterback TJ Finley could be the guy for Harsin.

Finley led Auburn back last week against Georgia State, helping Harsin avoid an embarrassing loss to a team with much less talent.

If Finley starts against LSU it would be a matchup of two of the quarterbacks that battled in the spring for the starting quarterback job in Baton Rouge.

Finley, who started five games for LSU last season, saw the writing on the wall and made the very difficult choice to leave LSU — his dream school — for a better opportunity at Auburn.

Coach O essentially chose Myles Brennan (who is currently recovering from a broken arm) and Max Johnson (LSU’s current starting quarterback) over Finley.

If Finley leads Auburn to a win over LSU in Baton Rouge, the obvious narrative will be that Orgeron chose the wrong quarterback.

Right or wrong, it would be hard to argue against that statement.

Coach O losing to the quarterback that he had third on the depth chart at LSU would be a disaster. It would be embarrassing. The questions about Orgeron’s decision-making will start to pile up. And the doubts about his ability to lead LSU back to the promised land will increase greatly.

Losing to Auburn and TJ Finley could easily be the nail in the coffin for Orgeron’s time at LSU.
