LSU football head coach Ed Orgeron might be playing some mind games with Kentucky Wildcats head coach Mark Stoops this week.

The Tigers and the Wildcats are set to meet on Saturday in Lexington at 6:30 PM CT/7:30 PM ET.

LSU is hoping to get back on track after a tough home loss to Auburn last weekend, while Kentucky is looking to move to 6-0 on the season.

To say this is an important game for Orgeron and his future as the Tigers’ head coach is an understatement. This is a must-win game for Coach O and LSU.

Maybe that’s why he’s engaging in some gamesmanship with Stoops.

Is Ed Orgeron trying to get an advantage for LSU football by playing some mind games?

Orgeron made an interesting comment on Wednesday during his weekly radio show.

Coach O noted that LSU’s had a lot of trouble this season against the blitz.

It’s almost like he’s giving away some inside information (though I’m sure Kentucky realizes this from watching the film).

Then Orgeron suggested that if LSU could pick up the blitz against Kentucky, it could get the Tigers’ playmakers in some favorable one-on-one situations.

Orgeron’s basically telling Stoops that LSU has trouble with the blitz, but at the same time, the Tigers have the athletes to make Kentucky pay if they try to blitz.

So what do you do if you’re Stoops and Kentucky?

Blitz and lose the one-on-ones?

Or not blitz and give Max Johnson time to pick apart the Wildcats’ defense?

It’s a great approach by Orgeron.

Coach O knows Stoops is listening to what he’s saying this week. The LSU head coach made those comments on Wednesday for a reason.

Next. Breaking up with Coach O won't be easy for LSU. dark

And I have to believe the goal was to get in Stoops’ head a bit and possibly make him overthink the Wildcats’ defensive game plan.
