LSU football head coach Ed Orgeron knows he’s on the verge of getting fired.

Only a fool wouldn’t realize it at this point.

Typically, when a coach is about to get fired, press conferences start getting tense.

Reporters have to ask about the job status of a coach on the hot seat. And those coaches inevitably get tired of hearing those questions.

That’s when things usually start to get contentious between the head coach and the media.

This is what we’re now seeing happen at LSU with Coach O.

Ed Orgeron has tense exchange with LSU football reporter

Earlier this week, Orgeron was asked multiple times during a press conference about his job status.

Orgeron gave a fairly candid answer in response (via 247Sports):

"Orgeron: “That’s for me to handle. Nobody’s told me about my job status. I’m fine. I haven’t had any discussion about it. As far as I know, I’m the head coach of the LSU Tigers. That’s all that matters.”"

Later in the press conference, Orgeron was asked again about his job status.

WAFB’s Jacques Doucet asked Orgeron how he was handling the uncertainty surrounding his job status. Orgeron cut Doucet off and specifically asked if the reporter was trying to get another quote.

Here’s video of the exchange (which begins at the 11:30 mark).

I can understand why Orgeron is annoyed by the question, but it’s a question that has to be asked.

Unfortunately for Orgeron, these questions are going to continue until he’s either fired or there’s an announcement after the season that he’s returning to LSU in 2022 (which is extremely unlikely at this point).

Orgeron better get comfortable with these questions. The noise is going to grow louder if the Tigers can’t get past the Florida Gators this weekend.

Then again, if LSU loses to Florida on Saturday, Tigers athletic director Scott Woodward might decide he’s seen enough and go ahead and make the move to fire Orgeron.

One way or another, it’s going to be a wild couple of months coming up for LSU.
