LSU football head coach Ed Orgeron made a comment during his weekly radio show on Wednesday night that tells me he’s done in Baton Rouge.

The comment showed us that Orgeron is in over his head.

It feels like Orgeron is sinking fast and he’s doing everything he can to stay afloat.

But unfortunately for Orgeron, the boat is taking on water and he can’t find a life preserver.

The comment LSU football’s Ed Orgeron made this week that should get him fired

Orgeron has a reputation for being a great recruiter and a great defensive line coach.

There’s no doubt he nails the recruiting part of his job. And at times, he’s nailed the defensive line part of his job (as a head coach).

But he didn’t nail it this past week against Kentucky.

On Wednesday night, Orgeron admitted that Kentucky’s defensive line “out-physicaled” the Tigers.

That should never ever be the case when LSU is playing Kentucky. Sure, Mark Stoops has done a tremendous job as the Wildcats’ head coach (I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s a candidate to replace Orgeron at LSU), but the Tigers are still a more talented team. And Orgeron is supposed to be a defensive line guru.

The fact that Orgeron admitted that Kentucky’s defensive line was more physical is a direct indictment on Orgeron as a coach. It’s one thing that it happened, it’s another thing for Orgeron to openly admit to it.

And honestly, it’s unacceptable for LSU’s defensive line to be less physical than Kentucky’s defensive line.

Andre Carter might be the Tigers’ defensive line coach, but the performance of that unit ultimately falls on Orgeron — more so than any other position unit on the team.

If the defensive line isn’t playing physical under Orgeron, there’s little hope for the rest of the team.

It’s all falling apart for Orgeron right now. Between the injuries and the coaching staff not being on the same page, I’m not sure things could get much worse for Coach O and LSU.

We’ll see how things go from here, but it’s hard to imagine Orgeron surviving October at this point.
