When will LSU Football fire Ed Orgeron?

That’s the big question in Baton Rouge right now.

By the way, if you’re one of the folks who is still holding out hope that Orgeron will turn things around — give it up.

Orgeron is a mediocre coach who is a great recruiter. Nothing more, nothing less.

But back to the timeline. When does LSU make the move to part ways with Orgeron?

It feels like it could be as soon as this weekend.

Could a loss to Florida be the end for Ed Orgeron?

If the Tigers fall to Florida this weekend, it will mean that LSU has a losing record over the 17 games they’ve played since beating Clemson in the national championship game in early 2020.

It would also mean a 3-4 record this year in what was supposed to be a “bounce-back season” for Orgeron and LSU.

At this point, Tigers athletic director Scott Woodward might not want to delay the inevitable.

Everyone knows the program will almost certainly be moving in a different direction in 2022.

That includes recruits.

Orgeron is still recruiting the players that are committed to LSU. It’s an awkward situation for everyone involved.

Coach O can’t tell recruits he’s going to be back in Baton Rouge next season because he doesn’t know if that will be the case. And even if he does tell recruits he’ll be back, they’re smart enough to know that’s probably not accurate.

Moving on from Orgeron after the next loss will make things easier for everyone.

dark. Next. How Coach O looks even worse

And it will allow LSU to start moving past the Orgeron era.
