LSU Football: Dabo Swinney is on Tigers’ shortlist of potential coaches
By Zach Ragan
LSU football is looking to send a shockwave through college sports.
According to a report from The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman, the Tigers are expected to pursue Clemson Tigers head coach Dabo Swinney to replace Ed Orgeron as LSU’s head coach.
“He’s gonna make him (Swinney) say no,” said a source to Feldman.
That would certainly qualify as a “splash” hire.
Could LSU football actually hire Dabo Swinney?
I’m not sure this is realistic for LSU.
Despite the lack of results this season, Swinney still has a good thing going at Clemson.
Of course, Swinney could be even better at LSU. The talent is better in Lousiana. It’s basically like having a top-five team every season.
It sounds like the Tigers are willing to spend big for a coach. So they could definitely afford Dabo.
But back to why this might be unrealistic for LUS. The problem here is that Swinney seems incredibly loyal to Clemson.
And the only place I think he’d leave Clemson for is Alabama, his alma mater.
I think Swinney has his eyes on the Alabama job. I think that’s where he wants to end his career.
I’m not sure Swinney would be a good fit at LSU anyway. His “golly gee” approach to life can be cringeworthy at times. He’s a good coach, but I don’t think he’s fit for Baton Rouge.
However, I applaud LSU for aiming high. The Tigers are going to make a splash. It’s just a matter of who.
