LSU Football: Tigers head coaching search Hot Board 1.0
By Zach Ragan
LSU Football is officially looking for a new head coach.
The Tigers and Ed Orgeron will be parting ways after the 2021 season.
LSU athletic director Scott Woodward has already started the search for Orgeron’s replacement and he’s expected to make a splash hire (or he’s at least going to do his best to make a splash hire).
For now, there are a lot of names floating around out there. We’ll cover them all here.
This list will likely be whittled down in the coming days/weeks as different dominoes fall.
Here’s what we have so far.
Jimbo Fisher — Texas A&M head coach
This will likely be the top target for LSU.
Fisher was at LSU from 2000-2006 as the program’s offensive coordinator under Nick Saban and Les Miles.
Tigers athletic director Scott Woodward hired Fisher at Texas A&M so there are plenty of connections here.
The big question is whether or not Fisher wants to leave Texas A&M. Fisher is already making a lot of money and the Aggies can afford to give him a raise. So this will come down to whether or not Fisher wants to go to Baton Rouge and how much LSU is willing to pay him.
Fisher is 31-12 so far at Texas A&M and he has a win over Alabama this season. He also won a national championship at Florida State. I think Fisher is on the cusp of being considered an “elite head coach”. He would definitely be an upgrade over Orgeron.
