Mark Stoops — Kentucky head coach

Mark Stoops isn’t a flashy name, but he might be the most underrated coach in the country.

The success Stoops has found at Kentucky — a program that is usually at the bottom of the SEC East — has been incredible. Stoops knows the SEC. He knows what it takes to win in this league.

Stoops, who is the brother of former Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops, doesn’t have any direct Louisiana connections. But he’s coached at Houston, South Florida, Miami, and Florida State. So it’s not like he doesn’t have any recruiting connections in the surrounding areas. I think he knows what he’d be getting into at LSU.

Stoops would certainly be a coaching upgrade over Orgeron. He wouldn’t be an upgrade in recruiting (not many coaches would be in that area), but he should be able to develop the players on the roster and put a nasty defense on the field.
