Lane Kiffin comments on rumors that he’s a candidate for the LSU football job

LSU Football needs a new head coach after announcing this week that Ed Orgeron won’t return for the 2022 season.
A lot of names have already been mentioned for the job, but this search is still in the early stages.
One of the names that’s been mentioned is Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin, who is a close friend of Orgeron.
Kiffin, who coached with Orgeron at USC and Tennessee, responded to a question during the SEC Weekly Coaches teleconference on Wednesday about his name being connected to the LSU job.

Kiffin did what most coaches do when their name is attached to coaching rumors this time of year — he offered a non-denial of interest.
Here’s the full quote via TigerDroppings.com
"“I think the team knows how focused we are and how we take it one day at a time so I’ve never addressed that,” Kiffin said. “Maybe I should, but we don’t worry about things that we can’t control that are on the outside. Obviously in recruiting you’re always battling all that. I feel like every coach probably battles that but especially (me) ever since leaving Tennessee. It is what it is and we’ll work our way through it.”"
That’s definitely not a denial.
I don’t know how high up the list Kiffin will be for LSU. But if he ends up getting offered the job, it’s hard to imagine him turning it down.
There are very few jobs in the country like LSU. It’s easily one of the top five jobs in the country. It’s one of the few places where competing for a championship is a reality on an annual basis.
Kiffin will never be able to compete with Alabama and Nick Saban while at Ole Miss.
But at LSU, he could level the playing field.
Kiffin’s name is definitely one worth monitoring during this search.
