LSU Football: Ed Orgeron had a great response to Matt Corral being questionable
By Zach Ragan
LSU football and No. 12 Ole Miss will meet this weekend in Oxford.
It will be the first game for the Tigers since the program announced that it will be parting ways with head coach Ed Orgeron after the 2021 season.
Earlier this week, Rebels head coach Lane Kiffin said starting quarterback Matt Corral is questionable for the game.
“He’s not in very good shape,” said Kiffin on Monday (via Yahoo Sports). “He hasn’t been for the last two days. You guys know how we are on injuries. Hopefully, he will play but I don’t feel good about that right now.”
Orgeron isn’t taking any chances when it comes to preparing for Ole Miss. He’s expecting Corral to play. In fact, Coach O thinks Kiffin isn’t being entirely truthful.
LSU football head coach Ed Orgeron’s great response to Matt Corral being questionable.
On Tuesday, Orgeron made it clear that he doesn’t think Kiffin is being straightforward about Corral’s status.
Coach O even thinks Kiffin might be throwing out a “smoke screen” to confuse LSU during their prep for the Rebels.
“We’re expecting him to play, but we’re going to study the second team quarterback, but knowing Matt and knowing Coach Kiffin, he’s kind of throwing me a smoke screen,” said Orgeron this week (via 247Sports).
Kiffin and Orgeron go way back, so it’s not a surprise that Coach O offered a candid comment about the Ole Miss quarterback situation.
The two coaches are longtime friends, having worked together at USC and Tennessee.
Kiffin was almost Orgeron’s offensive coordinator at LSU, but he ended up getting the Florida Atlantic head coaching job instead.
As far as Corral goes, I agree with Orgeron. It’s hard for me to imagine him not playing on Saturday.
