LSU football head coach Ed Orgeron hasn’t had a great week.

On Sunday, the program announced that it would be parting ways with Orgeron after the 2021 season.

Not long after that announcement, a report surfaced about Orgeron’s alleged behavior at LSU’s practices.

WBRZ’s Matt Trent reported that Orgeron had “girlfriends” at multiple practices that would interfere with the practices via their kids taking part in drills.

That report was completely false.

LSU Football players step up to defend Ed Orgeron

Multiple LSU players took to Twitter this week to defend Orgeron and refute the report from Trent.

Redshirt senior quarterback Myles Brennan said he had been at LSU “for quite some time” and has never seen what Trent reported.

Numerous other players also tweeted their defense of Orgeron, including senior defensive lineman Andre Anthony.

It’s not unusual for negative reports to come out about a coach after a coaching change is made.

But this scenario is a bit different than most. Typically, coaches get fired and they’re gone immediately.

Orgeron, however, is finishing out the season (it’s a lot like what Tennessee did with Phillip Fulmer in 2008). This was a decision that was agreed to by both parties. It’s not a nasty breakup.

Everyone gets it — including Orgeron. There’s no need for bogus stories.

Trent should publicly apologize to Orgeron. I know Coach O hasn’t been perfect and there have been some questionable decisions he’s made off the field over the last year. But a bogus report is a bogus report. No one deserves that treatment.

Trent should own up to putting out a false report. It’s the right thing to do.
