LSU Football: Myles Brennan may not be the only Tigers QB to transfer
By Zach Ragan
LSU Football is poised to have an embarrassment of riches at the quarterback position next season.
Even with Myles Brennan’s decision this week to transfer, the Tigers are still set to have Max Johnson, Garrett Nussmeier, and Walker Howard in the quarterback room in 2022.
That’s three potentially elite SEC quarterbacks in Baton Rouge.
Or at least, that’s the hope.
There’s at least a decent chance that not all three of those quarterbacks are on LSU’s roster next fall.
Could another LSU football quarterback hit the transfer portal?
Thanks to the transfer portal, it’s tough for programs to load up on talented quarterbacks and keep them.
If a four-star or five-star quarterback is on the roster and not starting by their second year, it’s almost inevitable that a transfer will occur.
And I think it’s reasonable to expect at least one of the three quarterbacks that are going to be on LSU’s roster next season (assuming Howard follows through on his commitment to LSU and signs) to leave before the start of the 2022 season.
My money would be on Johnson being the quarterback that leaves.
I think Nussmeier is the most likely option to be the starter in 2022, depending on who LSU hires to replace Ed Orgeron.
Nussmeier looks like the more talented player and he’ll have a year of experience in the SEC (even though he’s played sparingly, he still has some much-needed experience).
If Johnson loses the job to Nussmeier, it’s hard to imagine he sticks around for the fall — especially with a five-star quarterback in Howard also in Baton Rouge.
Unfortunately, this is the state of college football. Kids want their opportunities. The days of waiting three years for a chance to start are mostly over.
Like it or not, this is the reality we’re living in now when it comes to college football.
