Why LSU Football will likely lose a commitment from 4-star 2022 recruit
By Zach Ragan
2022 four-star linebacker DeMario Tolan has been committed to LSU football since early July, but that doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll be signing with the Tigers this winter.
In fact, it appears that Tolan could end up decommitting from LSU in the not-so-distant future.
247Sports’ Billy Embody reported last week that Tolan is being recruited “hard” by the Florida State Seminoles.
According to Embody, if LSU linebackers coach Blake Baker isn’t retained by the new head coach, Tolan will likely flip to Florida State. But if Baker stays, Tolan will likely sign with the Tigers.
Will LSU football sign DeMario Tolan?
It’s impossible to know if the new coach will keep Baker on staff. It’s totally dependent on whether not the new coach has his own linebackers coach. Or if he has a prior relationship with Baker.
However, I think whoever is hired would be wise to have Baker stick around. Baker is very familiar with the state of Louisiana — he played at Tulane and also coach at Louisiana Tech. Plus he has some Florida recruiting connections from his time at Miami.
Keeping Baker would seem like a wise move. And it would mean that Tolan would be a Tiger.
Tolan, 6-foot-2/205 lbs from Orlando, FL, is ranked in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 20 linebacker in the country and the No. 23 overall player in Florida.
A program can never have too many linebackers, so this is definitely a player that LSU wants to sign.
We’ll see how it plays out. But I’d say it’s 50/50 on Baker being the Tigers’ linebackers coach in 2022. Which means it’s 50/50 on LSU signing Tolan.
