There have been plenty of rumors surrounding the LSU Football coaching search.

And pretty much none of those rumors have been able to be confirmed.

The latest rumor is that Oklahoma Sooners head coach Lincoln Riley will be the Tigers’ next head coach.

Aren’t college football message boards great during a coaching search?

For now, there’s no indication that LSU is close to making a hire.

But there actually is some legitimacy to the Riley to Baton Rouge rumors.

247Sports’ Sonny Shipp reported on Wednesday that there’s been communication between Riley’s camp and LSU.

It’s unclear how deep any communication between Riley and LSU has been.

Lincoln Riley to LSU football still feels like a longshot

I wrote on Tuesday that I’d be surprised if Riley takes over for Ed Orgeron at LSU.

I still feel that way after reading Shipp’s report, though I’m admittedly intrigued by the idea of Riley in Baton Rouge.

There’s no doubt in my mind that Riley would win a championship within a few years if he took over as the Tigers’ head coach. Riley is a better coach than Les Miles and Orgeron. It’s almost a certainty that he’d be able to win with LSU’s talent.

Perhaps that’s enough to convince Riley to leave a great situation at Oklahoma.

With the Sooners joining the SEC in a couple of years, it’s only going to get harder to win a natty at OU (which has proved to be impossible during SEC’s era of dominance).

Next. LSU's QB situation feels messy. dark

This is still a “I’ll believe it when I see it” situation, but maybe Riley to LSU isn’t as far-fetched as I thought it was.
