Alabama fans weirdly want Bill O’Brien to take the LSU Football job
By Zach Ragan
For some strange reason, Alabama fans want Crimson Tide offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien to take the LSU football job.
O’Brien is just one of the many rumored coaches that could be an option to replace Ed Orgeron at LSU.
The former Houston Texans head coach joined Nick Saban’s staff in Tuscaloosa earlier this year.
And some Alabama fans already want him gone.
I’m not sure I understand why any Alabama fan would have an issue with O’Brien.
On Saturday, Crimson Tide quarterback Bryce Young set an Alabama single-game passing record by passing for 559 yards.
Bama also has the No. 3 scoring offense in the nation.
I’d say O’Brien is doing a good job.
LSU football could do a lot worse than Bill O’Brien
I know O’Brien isn’t a “sexy” name, but he’d probably do a great job as LSU’s head coach.
In fact, I think he’d win a national championship within a couple of years.
O’Brien has proved he can win at the college level (he did well at Penn State in a tough situation).
And he obviously has a considerable amount of NFL experience. Plus he’s worked for a year now under Saban.
What’s not to like?
If fans are scared by the way his NFL tenure ended (getting fired by Houston), they shouldn’t be.
That’s likely how Saban’s time in the NFL would’ve ended if he had stuck around in Miami.
Saban could’ve held on in the NFL for a while, but he made a smart move and returned to the college game before he got fired.
O’Brien could easily be the next Saban.
If O’Brien lands in Baton Rouge it wouldn’t be a splashy hire, but it would be an extremely solid hire. And it would be an upgrade over Orgeron.
