LSU Football: The Lincoln Riley dream is still alive for the Tigers
By Zach Ragan
LSU Football athletic director Scott Woodward is doing a great job of keeping the details of the Tigers’ ongoing coaching search as quiet as possible.
No one really seems to know what’s going on with the search…which is why all options are seemingly still on the board for LSU.
Specifically, it appears that Oklahoma Sooners head coach Lincoln Riley is still a viable option for the Tigers.
That’s despite a report from The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman earlier this month that said Riley to LSU “is not gonna happen”.
LSU Football wants to make a splash hire
Woodward wants to make a splash hire. That’s why he’s going hard in the paint for Riley or Texas A&M Aggies head coach Jimbo Fisher. The feeling is that Louisiana head coach Billy Napier is a “fallback option” for the Tigers (unless Florida gets to him first).
While it seems incredibly unlikely that Riley will leave Oklahoma for LSU, the dream is at least still alive.
247Sports’ Billy Embody reported on Thursday that folks at Oklahoma are “sweating” due to the possibility of Riley to LSU.
Embody also noted that while Riley is expected to stay in Norman, a big enough contract offer from LSU could cause him to strongly consider making the move to Baton Rouge.
Of course, it’s possible that the Sooners could match any offer that LSU makes — though it’s unclear if Oklahoma is willing to get into a bidding war with the Tigers. We’ll see in the coming days how this all plays out.
Stealing Riley from Oklahoma would certainly qualify as a “home run hire” for Woodward and the Tigers.
