LSU Football: Brian Kelly’s offensive coordinator hire just become obvious
By Zach Ragan
LSU football head coach Brian Kelly’s job just got a lot easier.
Specifically, his job of finding an offensive coordinator got easier.
The Carolina Panthers fired offensive coordinator Joe Brady on Sunday afternoon, according to multiple reports.
Brian Kelly needs to work quickly to hire Joe Brady as LSU football’s offensive coordinator
Brady famously worked as LSU’s passing game coordinator during the Tigers’ historic 2019 season.
The former New Orleans Saints offensive analyst helped lead LSU’s offense to the No. 1 scoring offense in the nation (48.4 points per game).
Brady became a coveted name in the NFL after impressing with LSU in 2019. The Carolina Panthers quickly scooped Brady up after the Tigers beat Clemson in the national championship game in early 2020.
For a while, it appeared that Brady was on the path to becoming an NFL head coach. He even interview for the Atlanta Falcons job last year (which eventually went to Arthur Smith).
However, it appears we were all a bit quick to anoint Brady as the next great young NFL coach. The Panthers obviously didn’t like the job that Brady was doing in Charlotte, so they’re moving on with five games remaining this season.
Maybe Brady is just a better fit at the collegiate level. Or maybe it was just a bad situation in Carolina (the Panthers’ quarterback situation has been unsettled since Brady arrived in 2020).
Whatever the case, Kelly needs to bring Brady back. We know he works well in Baton Rouge. And he’d instantly excite LSU fans and recruits (2023 five-star quarterback Arch Manning, a Louisiana native, is a big fan of Brady).
This is an easy call for Kelly to make.
