LSU football‘s decision to hire Brian Kelly away from Notre Dame to replace Ed Orgeron as the Tigers’ head coach received an extremely positive review from a national voice last week.

Rivals national recruiting columnist Mike Farrell graded the coaching hires that have been made so far and he gave LSU an “A+” for hiring Kelly.

Here’s what Farrell had to say about the hire:

"Reports came out Monday night that Kelly is leaving the Irish for LSU. Kelly took Notre Dame to the title game and playoff with recruiting restrictions at Notre Dame. Imagine what he can do at LSU? He’s a great coach, he develops players and he can recruit. This is a home run and arguably the best hire LSU could make."

There isn’t much to dislike about LSU football’s decision to hire Brian Kelly

This is one of the few times that I feel like a national analyst got it right when it comes to LSU.

Farrell is spot on with his take here. What Kelly accomplished at Notre Dame was incredible. He’ll have more talent than he’s ever had at LSU, which means he should seemingly dominate in the SEC.

When you look at Kelly’s resumé, there’s not much to complain about.

The only real flaw is his 4-8 record with the Fighting Irish in 2016. But even that can be viewed as a positive.

Kelly recognized what didn’t work in 2016. And he made some necessary changes. The next year, Notre Dame went 10-3 and finished No. 11 in the final AP poll ranking.

There are going to be ups and downs while leading a major college football program. Winning a national championship every year isn’t realistic for most programs. There will be issues that arise and changes that need to be made.

Next. Brian Kelly avoiding huge misstep. dark

Kelly, however, has proved he’s more than capable of making those changes. That’s why this is a home run hire for the Tigers.
