New LSU football head coach Brian Kelly proves he ‘gets it’
By Zach Ragan
Don’t worry about new LSU football head coach Brian Kelly adjusting to coaching in Louisiana.
He proved on Tuesday that he knows exactly how to thrive as the head coach of the Tigers.
Kelly made a major move by hiring Frank Wilson away from McNeese State.
LSU announced the hire on Tuesday.
Brian Kelly knew he needed recruiting help and he found it
Wilson is undoubtedly one of the best recruiters in the nation. And he knows Louisiana better than most.
The New Orleans native spent five years as an assistant at LSU (2010-2015) under Les Miles before becoming the head coach at UTSA and later McNeese State. He also spent six years as a high school coach in Louisiana from 1997-2003 (at Edna Karr and O.P. Walker).
Wilson knows the state. And he knows how to land elite talent. He’s going to be a major asset to Kelly at LSU.
The fact that Kelly recognized that he needed someone like Wilson on his staff shows that he understands what it takes to win in Louisiana.
Kelly isn’t coming to Baton Rouge to recruit the same players he was recruiting at Notre Dame. He’s coming to land the best of the best in Louisiana.
This is a move that will be universally loved by LSU fans and former players.
Former Tigers defensive back Tyrann Mathieu, in fact, took to Twitter on Tuesday to praise the move.
Mathieu tweeted that knows Wilson will keep elite talent from leaving the state while uncovering some hidden gems.
Kelly gets it. He gets what it takes to win at LSU. And he proved it on Tuesday with his hire.
