LSU Football received some unexpected good news last week.

Quarterback Myles Brennan announced that he’s returning to the Tigers for his final season of eligibility.

Brennan entered the transfer portal earlier this season after Max Johnson took a stronghold on starting quarterback job (largely due to the broken arm that Brennan suffered before the start of the 2021 season).

Johnson has since transferred to Texas A&M, which left the Tigers with only one scholarship quarterback (true freshman Garrett Nussmeier, who is hoping to redshirt this season).

(LSU also signed 2022 five-star quarterback Walker Howard during the early signing period last week.)

The Tigers’ suddenly wide-open quarterback picture likely had a lot to do with Brennan’s decision to return to LSU.

But that definitely wasn’t the only thing that went into Brennan’s decision.

Myles Brennan dropped an exciting quote while praising LSU football’s hiring of Brian Kelly.

One of the main reasons Brennan is returning is undoubtedly the presence of new head coach Brian Kelly.

Last week, Brennan discussed his decision to return to LSU and he made it sound like LSU could be in for a special season in 2022.

“It really gave me a flashback back to 2019,” said Brennan of his talks with Kelly (via Twitter/Glen West).

The 2019 Tigers, of course, were possibly the greatest team in college football history.

Brennan also said that Kelly made it clear he wants to mold the offense to the strength of the quarterback — something that sounded appealing to Brennan.

The talent is there for LSU to have a big season — they just need the right coach to put it all together.

It certainly sounds like Brennan believes Kelly is up to the job. We should take him at his word, otherwise, I don’t think he’d be back in Baton Rouge.

The big question now is “who starts at quarterback for LSU?”

Is it Brennan? Is Nussmeier the guy in 2022? Does Howard get a shot?

No one knows those answers for now. But we at least know it’s going to be a really fun spring with those three quarterbacks battling it out.
