Former LSU football quarterback Joe Burrow made a comment this week that got him in some hot water with Cincinnati Bengals fans.

Burrow, who was the No. 1 overall pick by Cincinnati in the 2020 NFL Draft, was asked this week about how the Bengals have avoided COVID-19 this season.

According to Burrow, it’s because there’s nothing to do in Cincinnati.

“Fortunately, there’s not a ton to do in Cincinnati,” said Burrow.

Joe Burrow shouldn’t be criticized for his comments about Cincinnati

This probably won’t come as a surprise, but Burrow’s comments about Cincinnati created a bit of a firestorm on social media.

Some Bengals fans weren’t happy with the comments. While others saw it as a sign that Burrow wants to leave Cincy.

I think some fans have forgotten that Burrow is almost always locked in on football. He doesn’t do much outside of preparing for football games. So I’m not sure he is the go-to guy for Cincinnati nightlife reviews.

After all, this is the player who spent the month after being the No. 1 pick in the NFL draft just chilling in his childhood Star Wars-themed bedroom.

But that’s not why Burrow shouldn’t be criticized for his comments about Cincinnati being a boring city.

Burrow grew up in Ohio. He’s been in the state since he was 9 years old — outside of his two years at LSU.

Athens, OH, where Burrow lived with his parents, is just two and a half hours from Cincinnati.

Burrow making this comment about Cincinnati is like any other Ohio native saying “our city is boring”. There are folks in almost every city in every state that make comments like that at some point.

Burrow gets a pass to say whatever he wants about Cincinnati. And no one should get mad. It’s not a shot at the city. It’s just a loving jab at a place close to Burrow’s heart.
