New LSU Football head coach Brian Kelly made a quick impression on one of the Tigers’ best players.

LSU wide receiver Kayshon Boutte tweeted on Wednesday, “Ignore the rumors…I’m locked in”.

This tweet was of course in response to rumors that Boutte might be leaving Baton Rouge.

Boutte actually fueled those rumors earlier this month by telling The Jordy Culotta Show that he was planning on going through spring practice with the Tigers and then seeing where things stood.

But it’s clear from Boutte’s tweet that he’s locked in at LSU. That tells us that Kelly and his staff have quickly made a strong impression on Boutte.

LSU Football WR Kayshon Boutte can be one of the best players in the nation

It seems that Boutte wants to be part of what Kelly is building at LSU.

That’s obviously great news for the Tigers.

Boutte, a former five-star recruit who will be a junior in 2022, looked like one of the best wide receivers in the nation in 2021 before an injury sidelined him.

In six games this season, Boutte caught 38 passes for 509 yards and nine touchdowns.

If you extrapolate those numbers out to a full 15 game season, Boutte would’ve had 95 receptions for 1,272 yards and 22 touchdowns.

Those aren’t quite Justin Jefferson/Ja’Marr Chase 2019 numbers, but they aren’t far off, either.

Having Boutte in 2021 is going to be extremely important for Garrett Nussmeier, the Tigers’ likely starting quarterback. Boutte will be a wide receiver that Nussmeier can trust and lean on in key moments. Everyone knows what they’re getting with Boutte — a dynamic player that will be yet another LSU wide receiver playing on Sundays.

If Boutte can stay healthy, the sky is the limit for him in 2022.

It’s a good thing Kelly was able to make a positive impression on Boutte — he’s going to be one of the SEC’s biggest stars next season.
