LSU Football: Tigers could be adding a talented WR from Texas
By Zach Ragan
LSU football could be adding a talented wide receiver from Texas to their 2022 recruiting class.
The Tigers are one of the programs in the mix for three-star wide receiver Caleb Douglas.
Douglas, 6-foot-3/185 lbs from Missouri City, TX (Hightower), is ranked in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 65 wide receiver in the country and the No. 65 player in Texas.
This is an example of a player who isn’t viewed the same by recruiting services and college football programs.
Douglas isn’t highly rated, but he has an impressive offer list: Baylor, Florida, LSU, Notre Dame, Texas, USC, and Virginia Tech, among others.
Recruiting rankings are usually a good indicator of how good a player will be, but not always. This is one of the cases where we shouldn’t go by the recruiting rankings (I’m going to roll with the evaluations of Power-5 programs).
Why LSU football should feel good about landing Caleb Douglas
The Tigers are in a good spot in this recruiting battle.
LSU is scheduled to receive Douglas’ final visit before National Signing Day. When it’s a close battle, the team that gets the last visit is often the program that wins the signature.
Another thing working in the Tigers’ favor is the fact that Douglas isn’t visiting anywhere this weekend (he recently visited Florida, though).
247Sports reported this week that LSU wide receivers coach Cortez Hankton is scheduled to see Douglas this weekend. And head coach Brian Kelly is going in-home with Hankton next week.
It certainly sounds like the Tigers are working hard to close the deal on this one.
