LSU football fans got some good news this week in regards to a key wide receiver.

There have been some rumblings this offseason that the Tigers might not have wide receiver Deion Smith in 2022.

Smith entered the transfer portal in early December.

However, according to a report from 247Sports’ Shea Dixon, it looks like Smith is still with the team and expected to play in 2022….for now.

Here’s what Dixon said on Saturday about the situation:

"Smith definitely has to stay on top of his coursework and buckle down in the classroom this offseason, but as of right now he is back with the team."

It’s great news that Smith apparently isn’t planning on leaving LSU. But there are obviously still some concerns with his academics.

Deion Smith on the roster would be great news for LSU football in 2022

Smith is a former four-star recruit from Mississippi. He was rated as the No. 8 wide receiver in the country during the 2021 recruiting cycle.

The Jackson, MS native played in six games as a true freshman in 2021, catching 11 passes for 186 yards and two touchdowns.

With Smith hopefully back, it’ll give the Tigers’ already impressive wide receiver group even more depth.

LSU will have a wide receiver rotation comprised of Smith, Kayshon Boutte (who should be a household name after 2022), Malik Nabers, Brian Thomas Jr, Jack Bech, Jaray Jenkins, and Kyren Lacy (who is transferring to LSU from Louisiana Lafayette).

That’s a ridiculous amount of talent.

Whoever starts at quarterback for the Tigers — likely Myles Brennan, though Garrett Nussmeier and true freshman Walker Howard will have a shot — is going to have some nice offensive weapons to work with.
