Former LSU football teammates Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase are one of the best stories in the NFL right now.

Burrow and Chase were incredible together in Baton Rouge. In 2019, during the Tigers’ memorable 15-0 season, Chase caught 84 passes for 1,780 yards and 20 touchdowns while playing with Burrow.

When Chase was drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals, just a year after the Bengals selected Burrow with the No. 1 overall pick, plenty of folks expected the duo to pick up where they left off at LSU.

But I’m not sure anyone expected the type of success that the two have had this season.

The Bengals are one game away from the Super Bowl. Yes, the Bengals, the same team that went 2-14 just two years ago.

And the main reason they’re in this position is because of Burrow and Chase.

Chase set an NFL rookie record for receiving yards in 2021, catching 81 passes for 1,455 yards (which is also a Bengals franchise record). No one saw that coming.

There’s no doubt that Burrow and Chase have a special chemistry that’s rare in the NFL.

After the Bengals beat the Tennessee Titans this past weekend to advance to the AFC Championship, Chase spoke to reporters about what makes Burrow so good.

“Joe’s mindset is unbelievable, man,” said Chase to SiriusXM NFL Radio after beating the Titans (via 247Sports).

Here’s more from Chase:

"“He’s always thinking ahead and thinking positive. That’s the type of quarterback we need on our type of team. He reads the defense perfectly. He sees stuff the defense throws at him when he’s really not supposed to see it.”"

I’m sure some NFL fans — those who aren’t Bengals fans or LSU football fans — probably think the praise for Burrow is a bit over the top.

But I couldn’t disagree more. The fact that Burrow has a franchise that was wandering through the wilderness for 30 years just one game away from the Super Bowl in his second NFL season (his first full season, thanks to that nasty ACL injury last year) is beyond incredible. It’s almost unbelievable.

Chase is spot on with his comments. Burrow does things he shouldn’t be able to do.
