LSU Football suddenly has a legitimate shot to land the top-rated linebacker in the 2022 recruiting class.

Five-star linebacker Harold Perkins decommitted from the Texas A&M Aggies on Monday.

Perkins, 6-foot-3/210 lbs from Cypress, TX (Cy Park), is ranked in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 1 player in Texas and the No. 1 linebacker in the country. He’s also rated as the No. 6 overall player in the 2022 recruiting class.

Perkins committed to Texas A&M earlier this month.

LSU football has a legit chance to land Harold Perkins

Perkins’ recruitment is “wide open” according to his uncle (via 247Sports).

And that includes LSU.

The Tigers aren’t only an option, they appear to have a strong chance of landing Perkins.

According to Perkins’ uncle, the talented linebacker will take an official visit to Baton Rouge this weekend.

This is certainly a major twist in one of the biggest recruitments in the country.

And it makes you wonder if NIL deals are coming into play here.

Texas A&M has reportedly paid a lot of cash to recruits, via NIL deals, during this cycle.

And you’d think that Perkins, one of the top-rated players in the 2022 recruiting class, would be the recipient of a lot of that cash.

Maybe this is a situation where LSU is using a NIL deal to its advantage. IF that’s the case, then I say good for the Tigers (and Perkins).

Part of landing a top recruiting class in 2022 is having great NIL opportunities for signees.

If that’s the case here, then maybe it means LSU has realized they’re going to have to pony up some cash to go toe to toe with the Aggies in recruiting.
