Troy Aikman reveals how he feels about Joe Burrow comparisons
By Zach Ragan
Former LSU football quarterback Joe Burrow has been compared to numerous Hall of Fame quarterbacks over the last couple of years.
One of those quarterbacks is Dallas Cowboys legend Troy Aikman.
Aikman, who is currently the lead color analyst for the NFL on Fox, was enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2006.
The former UCLA quarterback, who transferred to the Bruins after playing two years for Oklahoma (Aikman was transferring way before it was cool), won three Super Bowls with the Cowboys. He was the MVP of Super XXVII.
Troy Aikman on how he feels about Joe Burrow comparisons
Aikman spoke to The Athletic’s Richard Deitsch recently about a variety of topics (including Aikman’s future in the booth).
Deitsch asked Aikman how he feels about football analysts comparing Burrow to him.
Aikman’s response was pure gold.
“That’s a compliment to me,” said Aikman of folks comparing Burrow to him.
“I mean, he’s going to be an absolute superstar if he’s not already,” added Aikman. “But what I love is he’s got the edge to him. He’s got this competitive edge and confidence that I think is important in order to be the quarterback.”
That’s a big compliment from Aikman, a quarterback who consistently won at the highest level.
Aikman has seen a lot of football — as a player and an analyst — so it goes without saying that he knows when a player “has it” or doesn’t.
And he clearly thinks that Burrow has it — even more than Aikman himself did.
I think Cincinnati Bengals fans would be happy just winning one Super Bowl ring. Can you imagine if they won three (like Aikman)?
That doesn’t seem likely. But then again, it’s Joe Burrow — I would never rule him out when it comes to winning.
