There’s one 2022 running back that LSU Football hopes to land this week.

And that’s four-star running back TreVonte Citizen.

Citizen, 6-foot/217 lbs from Lake Charles, LA (Lake Charles College Prep), is ranked in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 9 running back in the country and the No. 10 player in Louisiana. He’s also rated as the No. 107 overall player in the 2022 recruiting class.

The Louisiana native committed to the Tigers last summer, but he decommitted from LSU after the program went through a coaching change in late November.

If the Tigers don’t sign Citizen, it likely means they won’t sign a high school running back during this recruiting cycle.

LSU football is back in the mix for TreVonte Citizen

LSU is battling Auburn, Florida, and Miami for Citizen’s commitment.

The fact that LSU is even in the mix is a testament to the job that running backs coach Frank Wilson has done since coming back to Baton Rouge.

Citizen’s high school coach, Erick Franklin, spoke to 247Sports this week about Citizen’s recruitment. And he noted that LSU was “out” for Citizen after the coaching change.

Wilson, however, was able to get the Tigers back in the battle.

“I think Frank did a good job getting LSU back in the running because they were out, there was no chance,” said Franklin to 247Sports. “Frank Wilson did a great job recruiting him last month and get him back focused on LSU.”

That’s exactly why new Tigers head coach Brian Kelly wanted Wilson back at LSU. He knew he needed Wilson to help land key in-state recruits.

Auburn seems like the biggest threat here. Citizen has built a solid relationship with Auburn running backs coach Cadillac Williams.

We’ll see on Wednesday how this battle ultimately plays out, as Citizen is set to sign his National Letter of Intent after making a final decision.
