Tom Brady sees scenario where Joe Burrow should retire after this season
By Zach Ragan
Now that Tom Brady is officially retired from football, he appears to be going into the business of comedy.
Brady, who earlier this week announced his retirement from the NFL after 22 years, had a bold suggestion for Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow this week.
The future Hall of Fame quarterback suggested on the “Let’s Go!” podcast that Burrow should retire if the Bengals win Super Bowl LVI against the Los Angeles Rams.
If the Bengals win, it would make Burrow the first player to win a Heisman Trophy, a national championship in college, and a Super Bowl trophy.
Brady’s thinking is that Burrow could go out on top.
"“Before we came on the air, Tom said something that gave me quite a chuckle and he probably didn’t want to say it because of the sensitivity around it but I can, I’ll repeat it for him,” Brady’s “Let’s Go!” co-host Jim Gray said on the podcast’s latest episode, as transcribed by Bengals.com. “He said, he hopes you are the first person to win the Heisman Trophy, a college football championship and a Super Bowl. He said if that happens, you should go out on top and retire.”"
There’s no way Joe Burrow is retiring after winning the Super Bowl
There’s an obvious pro-Burrow joke here.
Brady just wants Burrow to retire because he’s worried the former LSU football star will eclipse him as the greatest quarterback of all time.
Ok, we seriously doubt that’s the case — Brady is obviously joking and having a good time with Burrow.
But on a serious note, there are a lot of folks who think Burrow could be the closest thing we’ve seen to Brady.
Burrow has that same insane drive to be great as Brady. He also has the same leadership abilities and ridiculous confidence.
What Burrow did this year — leading the Bengals to the Super Bowl just two years after going 2-14 — is beyond incredible. It’s unbelievable.
I don’t know how Burrow’s career will actually turn out. Nothing is guaranteed in football.
Except this — there’s no way Burrow retires if the Bengals win the Super Bowl.
Burrow is going to play as long as he can. I have a feeling we’re in for an exciting 15 years of greatness.
