LSU football finished the 2022 recruiting cycle with the No. 12 ranked recruiting class in the nation.

Not bad for Brian Kelly, a new head coach who only had a couple of weeks to prepare for the early signing day back in December.

Landing the No. 12 class is impressive, but that’s nowhere close to where LSU wants to be under Kelly.

Fortunately, it appears that the perception from the national media is that Kelly will do just fine in recruiting in Baton Rouge.

In other words, he’s just getting started.

New LSU football head coach Brian Kelly has silenced the doubters

When Kelly left Notre Dame for LSU, one of the biggest concerns about him was how he would recruit in the SEC.

Kelly hasn’t only done well, he’s exceeded expectations. This wasn’t a perfect recruiting cycle for Kelly — the Tigers missed on a couple of key in-state recruits — but it ended with a bang when LSU landed five-star linebacker Harold Perkins (a former Texas A&M commit).

Here’s some commentary on Kelly’s time at LSU so far from 247Sports’ Cooper Petagna:

"Brian Kelly’s short tenure in Baton Rouge has been nothing short of entertaining since arriving on campus in Louisiana’s state capital. Highlighted by fake accents and viral dance moves, Kelly has become somewhat of a lightning rod for the national media and college football pundits. Take all that away and zoom in on what matters, there’s a lot to like about what Kelly and his staff have accomplished in Baton Rouge in a short amount of time."

The new LSU head coach has leaned all the way into the recruiting. He’s embracing it. The feeling at Notre Dame was that Kelly wasn’t all that into recruiting. It’s like LSU has energized Kelly.

That’s a dangerous thing for the rest of the SEC. If an unenthusiastic Kelly was able to take Notre Dame to the College Football Playoff, then imagine what he’ll be able to do at LSU.

(Championships, I’m talking about multiple championships).

Next. Joe Burrow clears the air. dark

I have a feeling it’s going to be a really fun ride with Kelly at the helm. There’s no doubt he’s an elite college football head coach and recruiter.
