LSU football is starting to be viewed by the national media in a more favorable light.

The latest top 25 from The Athletic’s Stewart Mandel has the Tigers ranked No. 25.

LSU was previously unranked in Mandel’s top 25.

The reason Mandel has the Tigers in his top 25 now?

He likes what new LSU head coach Brian Kelly has done with the Tigers’ roster via the transfer portal.

From Stewart Mandel:

"Brian Kelly shored up the roster considerably by adding Oklahoma State cornerback Bernard-Converse, Arkansas defensive backs Brooks Jr. and Foucha, Missouri defensive tackle Mekhi Wingo, Penn State running back Noah Cain, Louisiana wide receiver Kyren Lacy and offensive linemen Miles Frazier (FIU) and Tre’mond Shorts (East Tennessee State)."

An exciting time for the future of LSU football

Preseason rankings don’t really mean a ton.

Actually, they don’t mean anything at all.

But I do think guys like Mandel — someone who has covered college football for a long time — has a good idea of whether or not a program is in a good spot.

And it’s obvious he sees some great things happening in Baton Rouge under Kelly.

LSU fans should be extremely excited — Kelly accomplished great things at Notre Dame with fewer resources than he’ll have with the Tigers.

I don’t think there’s any doubt that Kelly is a better head coach than LSU’s two previous head coaches — Ed Orgeron and Les Miles.

Orgeron and Miles won national championships at LSU — imagine what Kelly will be able to do?!?!

Next. Joe Burrow clears the air. dark

The Tigers are going to have a lot to prove. They’re going to be starting the season near the bottom of the Top 25 (or outside the top 25, depending on the voters). Kelly has to prove he can get it done in the SEC.

But by the end of the season, I absolutely think LSU will be knocking on the door of the top 10.

Mandel’s belief that LSU is a top 25 team right now is validation that Kelly has this thing heading in the right direction.
