One of LSU football’s top 2023 recruiting targets — maybe their top recruiting target — is five-star quarterback Arch Manning.

Manning, 6-foot-4/215 lbs from New Orleans, LA (Isidore Newman), is ranked in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 1 overall player in the 2023 recruiting class.

The Louisiana native has elite football skills and a ridiculous football pedigree — possibly the greatest pedigree in the history of recruiting (that’s subjective, but I think a lot of folks would agree).

Arch’s grandfather is Archie Manning, an SEC legend who played quarterback in the NFL for 14 seasons. His father is Cooper Manning, who was set to play wide receiver at Ole Miss before spinal stenosis ended his football career.

And then, of course, Arch’s uncles are Eli Manning and Peyton Manning. Eli and Peyton have won a combined four Super Bowls, while Peyton holds numerous NFL passing records.

Does Arch Manning have a top-four?

Manning’s recruitment is going to be one of the most followed stories in college football over the next 10 months.

Last month, Manning eliminated Clemson from the mix. He reportedly called Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney and let him know they were out of the running.

On Friday, 247Sports’ Steve Wiltfong offered a small update on Manning’s recruitment.

And he seemed to suggest that Manning has a top four.

Wiltfong says Manning has Alabama, Georgia, Ole Miss, and Texas “near the top of his list”.

Now, that doesn’t mean LSU is out of the mix — Wiltfong mentioned that Tigers head coach Brian Kelly is working hard to land Manning.

Manning is playing this thing close to the vest. So unless he calls LSU to them they’re out of the mix, then I think this thing is still wide open (I also don’t see Manning going to Texas).

Next. Brian Kelly criticism is unfair. dark

There will be plenty more twists and turns in this recruiting battle. It’ll probably get pretty wild before it’s all over.
