LSU Football: NFL analyst makes the boldest prediction yet for Joe Burrow
By Zach Ragan
An NFL analyst recently made the boldest prediction yet for former LSU football quarterback Joe Burrow.
Former NFL Pro-Bowler Marcellus Wiley said that he believes Burrow is better at this stage of his career than Tom Brady was at the same stage.
Wiley also said he thinks Burrow could “edge out Brady”.
Marcellus Wiley has a point about Joe Burrow
I don’t think it’s a stretch to say that Burrow is more advanced as a quarterback in his second year in the NFL than Brady was in his second year in the NFL.
Brady didn’t put up mind-blowing stats during his early days with the Patriots. He was also surrounded by a better team (and a better head coach).
Burrow passed for over 4,600 yards in his second season. Brady didn’t pass over 4,600 yards until 2007 — his eighth season in the NFL (the same year he had Randy Moss).
Now, that doesn’t mean that Burrow is going to have a better career than Brady.
Brady is the greatest quarterback of all time and it’s not particularly close. There’s a really good chance that we never see another quarterback that was as good as Brady.
However, it wouldn’t be fair to Burrow to put a ceiling on his potential. And I don’t think it’s blasphemous to say his first two seasons in the NFL have been better than Brady’s first two seasons (especially if Brady leads the Cincinnati Bengals to a win against the Los Angeles Rams in the Super Bowl next week).
This is certainly a bold prediction from Wiley. Unfortunately, it’ll be 15 to 20 years before we know whether or not he was right.
