LSU Football: National columnist has strange suggestion for Brian Kelly
By Zach Ragan
New LSU football head coach Brian Kelly will enter the 2022 season looking to turn the Tigers into a contender in the SEC West in his first season in Baton Rouge.
LSU has the talent to be a problem for Alabama and Texas A&M in the SEC West.
The Tigers lost some talent via the transfer portal, but Kelly has also added a decent amount of talent from the transfer portal. It’s kind of a push in that area (minus losing defensive back Eli Ricks to Alabama…that’s a tough loss).
One reason that LSU should instantly be a threat in the SEC in 2022 is because of their quarterback situation.
The Tigers have two really good quarterbacks returning in Myles Brennan and Garrett Nussmeier (they lost Max Johnson to Texas A&M). Plus LSU signed Walker Howard during the early signing period in December (Howard was recruited by Kelly at Notre Dame, so the two have an established relationship).
National columnist has strange suggestion for LSU football head coach Brian Kelly
Rivals national recruiting columnist Mike Farrell on Kelly’s “rebuild” with the Tigers.
And he pointed out that Kelly will need to break in a “brand new quarterback”.
Umm, what?
Does Farrell think Howard is going to be starting as a true freshman?
(Howard is talented enough to start, but he’s going to miss most of spring practice after having thumb surgery.)
Or does he think Brennan, who was briefly in the transfer portal, played somewhere else the last four years?
Brennan and Nussmeier neither one are “brand new quarterbacks”. One has been at LSU since before Joe Burrow, while the other played in several games last season.
I’m not sure what Farrell is thinking. But it’s clear he’s not dialed in when it comes to LSU football.
