Matthew Stafford’s message for Joe Burrow after Super Bowl LVI
By Zach Ragan
Former LSU football quarterback Joe Burrow came up just short in his quest to lead the Cincinnati Bengals to a win against the Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl LVI.
The Bengals lost to the Rams 23-20, ending a magical season that no one saw coming.
After the game, Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, who has been in the league since 2009 and is just now enjoying his first Super Bowl win, had a message for Burrow.
“You’re a hell of a player,” said Stafford (via Yahoo Sports). “You got a great future, man. Love competing against you. You just keep being you, buddy.”
Will Joe Burrow get another shot at a Super Bowl?
My first thought after the Bengals lost to the Rams was “it’s ok, Burrow is going to have plenty more opportunities to win a Super Bowl…in fact, he’ll probably win several”.
Then I was reminded of Dan Marino, one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time who got to the Super Bowl in his second year (and lost) and never returned to the big game.
There’s no guarantee we’ll ever see Burrow in a Super Bowl again. Maybe this was just the perfect storm for the Bengals.
Now, I don’t think that’s what’s going to happen. I think Burrow took a team that was nowhere close to being a Super Bowl-caliber team and dang near won the whole thing.
Imagine what he can do with a legit offensive line?
I think we’ll see plenty more of Burrow in February. But it’s still a shame he wasn’t able to get his first Super Bowl win behind him at an early age.
