2 Former LSU Football players among top 50 highest paid NFL players ever
By Zach Ragan
247Sports recently put together a list of the top 50 highest paid NFL players ever and two former LSU football players were on the list.
And one of them is probably not who you were expecting.
Coming in at No. 50 on the list is former Tigers cornerback Patrick Peterson, who played at LSU from 2008-2010.
Peterson was the No. 5 overall pick by the Arizona Cardinals in the 2011 NFL Draft. During his career, he earned $102.76 million. And that number is still climbing. Peterson will turn 32 this summer so he still has a few years left him.
The former Tigers standout just finished his first season with the Minnesota Vikings. He played in 13 out of 17 games.
The surprising LSU football player who is among the highest-paid ever
Coming in at No. 46 on the list is former Tigers offensive lineman Andrew Whitworth, who played at LSU so long ago that he played for Nick Saban (2001-2005).
Whitworth, who was named the Walter Payton Man of the Year in 2021, played for the Cincinnati Bengals for the first 10 years of his career. He’s played for the Los Angeles Rams since 2017 (which means he became a Super Bowl champion this past week).
According to 247Sports, Whitworth has earned $107.4 million since his career started in 2006.
Whitworth’s placement on this list is a testament to his longevity.
The former Tiger will turn 41 next season. He’s undecided yet on whether or not he’ll retire following his first Super Bowl win.
That means for now, just like Peterson, Whitworth’s career earnings could continue to grow.
By the way, the top 11 players on 247Sports’ list are all quarterbacks. No surprise, right?
