New LSU football head coach Brian Kelly should have a nice, relaxing first season in Baton Rouge, right?

You know, a honeymoon period like all new coaches get. No one really cares about the first year anyway. It’s a “building” year. A mulligan, basically.

Wait….that’s not the case for Kelly?

Apparently, the pressure is higher for Kelly than most new head coaches.

The pressure is “very high” for new LSU football head coach Brian Kelly in 2022

Rivals.com’s Mike Farrell put out his “pressure index” for each new Power-5 head coaching hire this week and he thinks the pressure for Kelly is “very high”.

Here’s what he had to say:

"Between dancing with recruits and putting on a fake southern accent, Brian Kelly is off to a, shall we say, interesting start in Baton Rouge. LSU was happy to fire Ed Orgeron less than two years after winning a national title, so you know the heat is on from Day 1 for the former Notre Dame head coach to win it all and soon."

I get where Farrell is coming from, but I’m not sure I totally agree with him.

Sure, the pressure is higher on Kelly because he’s an accomplished head coach who is coming to LSU for the specific purpose of winning a national championship. Anything less than at least one national title during Kelly’s time at LSU will be a massive letdown (and really, fans should expect more than one title).

But that doesn’t mean anyone is expecting him to be a miracle worker in year one.

As far as dancing with recruits? I don’t see the big deal. Kelly is letting loose and having fun. Most of the feedback from recruits and their parents (and high school coaches) has been mostly positive so far.

Next. Brian Kelly needs to go get Joe Brady. dark

Kelly, like any Power-5 coach, has plenty of pressure on him in 2022. But I don’t think anyone is expecting him to take the Tigers to the College Football Playoff in his first season.
