LSU fans looking for a rundown of recent Tigers news need to look no further. We’ve got you covered with the latest and greatest stories out of Baton Rouge. We lead off with some LSU baseball chatter.

LSU baseball held its First Pitch Banquet on Sunday to commemorate the upcoming season. Several Tigers players wore the team’s 2023 white jersey at the event. Sadly, the new tops are void of the purple pinstripes fans have come to love. Photos of star outfielder Dylan Crews in the Tigers 2023 home uniform appeared on Twitter last week. First baseman Tre‘ Morgan joined Crews, wearing the latest purple alternate uniform.

Inconsistency marred the 2022 season and saw the Tigers finish the regular season ranked 25th. Further insult ensued when Southern Miss eliminated LSU in the College World Series Hattiesburg Regional tournament. However, LSU added four significant transfers this offseason, two of whom were named preseason All-Americans. They join Crews and Morgan on a roster loaded with talent. The 2023 Tigers are College World Series favorites and will open the season ranked number one by the Associated Press.

The Crimson Tide, led by senior Brittany Davis, are 4-2 in SEC play. Davis is the player to watch, averaging 17.6 points and 6.6 rebounds per game. For the Tigers, Angel Reese is expected to continue her juggernaut season. The sophomore forward is chasing her 20th consecutive double-double game. LSU fans can watch Reese and company take on the Tide live at 6 pm ET on the SEC Network.

Defensive coach returns to Baton Rouge

On Sunday, Steve Samra reported Gerald Chatman would return to Baton Rouge and serve as a defensive analyst. Chatman served as defensive line coach and interim defensive coordinator at Colorado in 2022. The Wisconsin native previously served as an analyst on Ed Orgeron’s staff in Baton Rouge. Chatman left LSU after 2018 and coached with the Cincinnati Bengals through 2020. He departed Colorado after the university hired Deion Sanders as the new head coach in Boulder.
