LSU Tigers focused on their final 2023 recruiting target

The LSU Tigers are wrapping up the recruiting trail as National Signing Day approaches. However, Brian Kelly’s staff remains dedicated to their final 2023 target in defensive lineman Jamel Howard.
Jamel Howard remains one of the top uncommitted recruits in the 2023 class. The three-star recruit from Marist High School in Chicago captured recruiters’ attention during his senior season. Recruiters from LSU, Michigan, Miami, and Wisconsin have remained in constant contact with the 6-3 320-pound DT throughout the cycle. Howard will announce his commitment on February 1st, along with the remaining available players with offers. With just days remaining, the LSU coaches are working hard to leave a final, positive impression.
LSU Tigers defensive line coach Jamar Cain visited Jamel Howard on Thursday. The ‘check in’ came days after LSU hosted Howard on an official trip to Baton Rouge. One can assume the trip went well, but Howard is not one to advertise his official visits on social media. However, he announced his LSU Tigers offer on Twitter in early December.
This weekend, Howard will travel to Miami for a final, official visit with the Hurricanes. However, many recruiting experts believe Michigan is the heavy favorite to land Howard’s commitment. LSU Tigers fans can only hope the young lineman trends toward what Kelly is building in Baton Rouge. LSU will solidify its 2023 class with a top 5 consensus ranking if such happens.
The LSU Tigers 2023 recruiting class currently ranks 5th by On3, with a 92.971 consensus score. Ohio State is just above LSU with a 93.403 score but with five less committed players. Brian Kelly’s 2023 class includes 25 commits and 11 transfers, including 5-star edge rusher Dashawn Womack. The Tigers will top their 5th-ranked class of 2021 should Howard decide to join Womack in Baton Rouge. Fans will have to wait and watch on Wednesday.
