LSU Tigers fans are ecstatic as Joe Burrow is one win away from another trip to the Super Bowl. Today, we’re digging into why the Cincinnati Bengals QB’s pro success matters to Baton Rouge.

Regardless of NFL fandom, LSU Tigers cannot help but root for Joe Burrow and the Bengals. Burrow is the face of the 2019 National Champions, a team forever etched into Tigers fans’ minds. Whenever Joe succeeds in the NFL, there is mention of the 2019 LSU Tigers. Likewise, Bayou Bengals fans reminisce about that season with every touchdown pass to Ja’Marr Chase. Most Tigers fans likely watch Joe Burrow’s NFL highlights through purple and gold lenses. It’s also fitting Joe graduated from one Tiger-themed brand to another.

like a phoenix rising from ashes, Joe Burrow climbed back to his feet and engaged an internal mechanism that triggered success

Joe Burrow was born in Iowa and raised in Ohio but molded in Baton Rouge. Few will forget the image of UCF’s Nate Evans standing over a downed Burrow in the 2018 Peach Bowl. The candid photo captures the LSU quarterback on all-fours following an interception. Such was the moment many speculate an NFL superstar was born. But, like a phoenix rising from ashes, Joe Burrow climbed back to his feet and engaged an internal mechanism that triggered success. What came after was a period of brilliant football enabled by Burrow’s ability to command an offense. Few quarterbacks are as composed in clutch moments. And, with every clutch-Burrow drive, the 2019 LSU Tigers are a part of the conversation. It’s a conversation Bayou Bengals have long craved.

Many recognize LSU football as ‘DBU’ because of players like Patrick Peterson, Tyrann Matthieu, and Jamal Adams. However, at quarterback, the recognition is historically unfavorable. Guys like Rohan Davey, Matt Flynn, Matty Mauck, and Zach Mettenberger enjoyed time in NFL reserve roles. But, of course, none were as notable as J’Marcus Russell, and that’s not a good thing. Russell was the 1st overall pick in 2007 and a top candidate in the ‘biggest draft busts of all time debate. For many years, LSU Tigers fans couldn’t wash the stench of Russell’s pro demise. That is until Joe Burrow was the 1st overall pick in 2020. Thus LSU fans are clinging to Burrow with every fiber of their being is no surprise.

The LSU Tigers saw something in Joe Burrow that the Buckeyes ignored

The LSU haters will poke fun at the Tigers fans’ obsession with 2019. But, some Ohio State fans also try sad attempts to ‘claim’ Joe Burrow. One must continue to turn the cheek on both. The LSU Tigers saw something in Joe Burrow that the Buckeyes ignored. And who can forget the moment in 2019 when Joe took the field wearing a ‘Burreaux’ jersey nameplate? You’re darn right. Tigers fans will forever obsesses over that season. 2019 was historic, mainly because Joe Burrow was the center of gravity. Baton Rouge will forever remain connected to the QB by an invisible umbilical cord made of pigskin and laces.

Joe Burrow is one of us, and when one of our guys is winning, we’re all winning. The LSU Tigers are winning Sundays.
