By John Fye
LSU Tigers fans looking for a rundown of university sports news need to look no further. We’ve got you covered with the latest and greatest stories out of Baton Rouge. To get started, we’re talking about NFL awards.
Justin Jefferson recognized as NFL’s best
LSU Tigers fans knew Justin Jefferson was destined for NFL greatness. However, few could’ve guessed he would be this good this fast. On Thursday, Jefferson became the 5th wide receiver in NFL history to win the honors of AP Offensive Player of the Year. Of course, Jefferson accepted his award with a brief ‘griddy’ celebration while onstage at the 12th Annual NFL Honors ceremony. The Louisiana native is the 2nd LSU Tigers alumni to win the OPOY award since Bert Jones in 1976.
Jefferson also won Best Moment of the Year for his incredible, one-armed catch against the Buffalo Bills on November 13th.
LSU Tigers baseball favorites to win SEC
On Thursday, the SEC Preseason Coaches Poll revealed the LSU Tigers as favorites to win the conference. LSU received 11 first-place votes, followed by Florida, Ole Miss, and Texas A&M receiving one vote each. Suffice it to say; the Bayou Bengals are heavily favored to win the SEC West. In the SEC East, the conference’s coaches like Tennessee’s chances over Florida and Vanderbilt.

Additionally, four LSU Tigers were voted to the SEC Coaches Preseason All-SEC Team. Superstar outfielder Dylan Crews and designated hitter Tommy White earned First Team All-SEC honors. On the All-SEC Second Team are first baseman Tre’ Morgan and pitcher Paul Skenes.
LSU basketball legend to be honored
After a three-year hiatus, the SEC Basketball Legends honors will return to the SEC Men’s Basketball Tournament. The event aims to honor a former basketball legend from each SEC team during halftime of their first tournament game. For the LSU Tigers, such honor will go to Collis Temple III. Temple played forward for the Bayou Bengals from 1999-2003. His father, Collis Temple II was honored as the LSU basketball legend during the 2006 tournament.

The younger Temple is 9th in LSU Tigers history for three-pointers and owns 1,173 career collegiate points.
Brian Kelly’s marriage rumors
Twitter circulated a Louisiana local news tweet suggesting Brian Kelly filed for divorce from his longtime wife. Bird app users were then treated to a photo of the LSU Tigers head coach with his wife at a restaurant. The image was captured and circulated by Kelly’s daughter. The Kelly’s appear more than happy in the snapshot. Either way, Brian Kelly’s marriage is none of our business.
Local media going out of their way to sift through court filings, looking for negativity surrounding another’s nuptials, is equivalent to smut peddling.
