The 2023 college football season is half a year away, but the outlook is already outstanding for the LSU Tigers. Brian Kelly’s program will enter the new season with a level of continuity only Vanderbilt can match in the SEC.

The LSU Tigers welcome back offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock and quarterback Jayden Daniels this season. Vanderbilt is the only other SEC school in the same situation. All other SEC schools have new individuals in one or both roles. Offensive coordinator and quarterback continuity are massive when one considers the processes to implement new schemes and develop rapport.

The LSU Tigers will pick up where they left off this Spring. Meanwhile, programs like Auburn, Florida, and Tennessee will have different dynamics because of coordinator or starting quarterback changes. In Alabama and Georgia, coordinator and starting quarterback changes have resulted in some uncertainty.

Will the Tide get back into the College Football Playoff with Tommy Rees and Jalen Milroe, or Ty Simpson?

Can Georgia three-peat with Mike Bobo at coordinator and a yet-to-be-named new starting quarterback?

Few forget LSU’s offensive struggles in Week 1 against Florida State in 2022. Such was the result of natural growing pains experienced by all teams subjected to change. Thankfully, LSU is well beyond the offensive growing pains phase and primed to take another leap in 2023. One can say the same about the defensive side of the ball, where the Tigers maintain defensive coordinator stability.

Matt House returns to Baton Rouge for his second season as LSU Tigers defensive coordinator. LSU is the only SEC West team with a returning head coach and offensive and defensive coordinators. Such is an impressive anecdote considering the college football coaching carousel era. Of course, if all goes well in 2023, Denbrock and House could be in for promotions ahead of 2024.

The LSU Tigers must take advantage of their coaching and quarterback continuity and return to the College Football Playoff.
