The LSU Tigers were in action across multiple sports on Friday. Many fans expected some wins, but few anticipated the Bayou Bengals to dominate the day.

Today’s news begins with what we already know, the LSU baseball team is pretty darn good.

Confirmed: LSU Baseball is a Goliath

Friday was baseball opening day for several SEC programs, including the LSU Tigers. LSU beat Western Michigan 10-0 in a suffocating performance at Alex Box Stadium in Baton Rouge. Starting pitcher Paul Skenes struck out 12 hitters while tossing six scoreless innings. The Tigers had not enjoyed such a performance from a starting pitcher in an opener since Scott Schultz in 1995.

Offensively, the LSU Tigers did not disappoint. Star centerfielder Dylan Crews was 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored. Designated hitter Jared Jones and infielder Ben Nippolt led the LSU offense, each knocking in a couple of runs. Jones’ two-run double in the sixth inning was the marquee play of a five-run LSU onslaught.

The top-ranked Bayou Bengals and Western Michigan will play game two of their opening series on Saturday.

LSU Softball wins twice on Friday

Also on campus, the LSU Softball team won both games at the start of the Tiger Classic. The Bayou Bengals shutout out Ohio 8-0 in their first game. Freshman pitcher Alea Johnson struck out three batters while firing five scoreless innings. In game two, LSU walked off Utah in a 7-inning thriller. The Tigers were down, 4-3, in the bottom of the 7th when Taylor Pleasants hit a 3-run blast to deep center field. The home run secured the 6-4 win and moved LSU to an 8-0 record.

The No. 18 LSU Tigers will play Central Arkansas and Utah on Saturday in Baton Rouge.

LSU Gymnastics pulls off an upset

The LSU Tigers Gymnastics team capped off Friday by defeating No. 2 Florida at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. Led by Aleah Finnegan, the Bayou Bengals knocked off the Gators 198.100-197.975. Finnegan was perfect on the beam and posted a 9.950 on the vault. Elena Arenas also had a career day, scoring 9.875 on the vault and 9.900 on the bars.
