The LSU Tigers have produced several NFL-caliber linebackers in recent years. Their latest 2024 commitment aims to continue the trend.

Davhon Keys committed to the LSU Tigers for 2024 last Saturday. The Aledo (Tex.) native adds talent to a recruiting class that moved into the top 10 rankings. But, more importantly, Keys adds to a position group that remains instrumental to LSU’s success, the linebacker position.

On3 recently named Davhon Keys in their top 10 Under Armor Dallas Camp performers. According to their report, the LSU Tigers’ commit appeared “strong as an ox.” Such is unsurprising, considering Keys is 6-0 and 200 pounds. For context, Harold Perkins measured 6-2 and 210 pounds during his high school senior season.

Additionally, On3 offered the following analysis of Keys’ camp performance:

"“Not only is Keys strong, he has light feet that allow him to stop and start quickly as well his move laterally with ease. In coverage, he showed toughness and physicality at the catch point making multiple pass breakups throughout the day.”"

The LSU Tigers rarely lack significant talent at linebacker, and Keys is in line with such. Additionally, Keys will help address the prolonged concerns of linebacker depth in Death Valley.

Perkins currently headlines the LSU linebacker depth chart for spring practices. Joining Perkins are fellow returning Tigers Greg Penn III and West Weeks, freshmen Whit Weeks, Christian Braithwaite, and Da’Shawn Womack. Moreover, LSU added a trio from the transfer portal, including Omar Speights. Regardless, the team remains 2-3 players short at the position ahead of the 2023 season.

Outside of Speights, the entire LSU Tigers linebacking core is eligible to return in 2024. But, of course, injuries and transfers are of constant concern. However, Brian Kelly is set to add 2024 hard-commits Keys, Kolaj Cobbins, and Xavier Atkins to the mix. Also, there’s no indication the LSU head coach is done adding linebackers to his 2024 roster via recruits or the transfer portal.

Barring any unforeseen developments, the LSU Tigers will have ample linebacker depth to start the 2024 season.
