No. 4 – The LSU Tigers’ SEC season opener

The LSU Tigers opened their SEC schedule against No. 24 Arkansas. But, of course, the Razorbacks were LSU’s first game against a ranked opponent. The Bayou Bengals needed the contest in the worst way.

Few might recall that leading into the Arkansas game, the Tigers received criticism for playing a weak non-conference schedule. However, LSU would show they could compete against ranked teams by defeating the Razorbacks.

LSU did just that.

Arkansas waged a defensive battle, but the LSU Tigers showed how tough it is to score on them. They held the Razorbacks to nine points in the first quarter and only 25 in the first half. Neither team shot the ball well, with LSU shooting 33.8% and Arkansas shooting 27.9%.

Regardless, the game was never really close.

The LSU Tigers dominated the boards, out-rebounded the Razorbacks 62-30, and hammered the No. 24 team 69-45 in their conference opener.

The Bayou Bengals finished the regular season with a 15-1 record in the SEC. Their only conference loss was on the road to South Carolina.
