No. 1 – Women’s NCAA Tournament run

The LSU Tigers went dancing for their second consecutive season and hosted the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament. We predicted the Tigers would build momentum in the first two rounds while playing in Baton Rouge. They did just that.

The Bayou Bengals dominated No. 14 Hawaii in a non-surprising win to open the tournament. However, things got interesting in the second round. There was a lot of chatter that the LSU Tigers were destined to fall to the winner of UNLV vs. Michigan. Such would have repeated the results of LSU’s 2022 tournament appearance.

But the Tigers took the doubt personally and made it their mission to avoid repeating recent history.

The LSU Tigers dominated Michigan in round two of the NCAA Tournament. Angel Reese nearly out-rebounded the Wolverines herself, while LSU limited Michigan to only 42 points. As a result, the Tigers advanced to their first Sweet 16 since 2014, where No. 2 Utah waited.

LSU knocked off Utah in a thriller, followed by wins over No. 9 Miami and No. 1 Virginia Tech. As a result, the Tigers are headlining the women’s National Championship Game for the first time in program history.

Better yet, the LSU women’s team is playing in the first men’s or women’s basketball championship game in school history.

Now, the focus shifts to stopping the dynamic of Caitlin Clark and the Iowa Hawkeyes on Sunday. Kim Mulkey has been in this position multiple times and is leading an LSU team that has yet to have a single player who’s played in a Final Four. However, Mulkey has proven she has this inexperienced team ready for the bright lights, so I expect they can shock the world again in the title game.
