No. 9 – Craig Davis, WR

Selected 30th overall by the San Diego Chargers in the 2007 NFL Draft

It’s painful to admit that Craig Davis owns the most uneventful NFL career among all players on our list of NFL Draft busts from the LSU Tigers.

The San Diego Chargers drafted Davis 30th overall following a 14-2 season. The Chargers were chocked full of talent but lacked a speedy receiver to pair with Vincent Jackson. In Davis, San Diego thought they had their man.

Unfortunately, Davis failed to live up to the 1st round-draft pick hype, much less the expectations of an NFL receiver.

Craig Davis only started one game as a rookie before an injury derailed his second and third seasons in San Diego. The Chargers released the receiver in 2010 after he appeared in only 25 games, including a pair of starts. The Buffalo Bills took a training camp flyer on Davis ahead of 2011, but he failed to make their team.

Davis played four seasons with the LSU Tigers before whiffing in the NFL. He flashed great speed and hands while doubling as a receiver and punt returner in Baton Rouge. Davis’s LSU Athletics profile also credits him as the “go-to” guy on third down situations.”

He caught 141 passes for 2,117 yards at LSU.
