No. 3 – Glenn Dorsey, DT

Selected 5th overall by the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2008 NFL Draft

Glenn Dorsey cemented himself as one of the most dominant defenders in college football history. The defensive tackle won every major defensive award in 2007 and led the LSU Tigers to win the 2007 BCS National Championship Game.

For his efforts, Dorsey was voted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2020.

However, Dorsey failed to live up to the hype after entering the professional game.

In all fairness, Dorsey played nine NFL seasons which is an accomplishment. Conversely, top five NFL Draft picks are knighted with expectations associated with franchise players. Dorsey was a solid pro but far from an NFL roster cornerstone.

Dorsey was a decent space-filler while playing his natural position at nose tackle during his rookie season. He started all 16 games for the Chiefs, recording 46 tackles, including four tackles for loss. He was moved to defensive end in 2009 after Kansas City switched to a 3-4 defensive scheme under Todd Haley. Suffice it to say, the massive lineman struggled to replicate his LSU output in his new position.

Dorsey played out his contract with Kansas City and then signed with the San Francisco 49ers in 2013. He put together decent production on the West Coast but was no longer an exclusive starter on defense.
