The LSU Tigers road to the National Championship has been a climb all year. They lost star gymnasts Kiya Johnson and KJ Johnson to injury and still fought their way to the natty.

Watching this LSU Gymnastics team all season has been nothing short of exhilarating. They hit a lot of speed bumps, losing Kiya and KJ Johnson to injury along the way, but have prevailed in pursuit of the programs first team National Championship.

LSU has won 16 individual National Championships from 10 different gymnasts. Their most recent winner is junior Haleigh Bryant who captured the individual trophy in Vault in 2022. This year, the Tigers advance as a team to the final dance.

No. 6 LSU, No. 2 Florida, No. 14 Denver and No. 7 Cal competed in session one of the NCAA Semifinals with the top two teams advancing to the championship on Satuday.

The Tigers began the meet on beam where the team finished with a score of 49.2750. They then moved to floor in the second rotation where they moved into second place with a 49.4750, highlighted by Haleigh Bryant who posted a meet-high 9.9625.

From there, they moved to vault, logging a team score of 49.2500, their lowest event score of the meet. Despite the low score, they still held on to second place entering the final rotation.

Moving to bar, LSU needed a 9.8375 score from senior Alyona Shchennikova to clinch a spot in the championship. Shchennikova did just that, scoring a 9.8625 to secure a top two finish in the meet before anchor Haleigh Bryant even started her routine. Of course, Bryant would still post the second highest score on bars with a 9.9375 – enough to push the Tigers into first place.

Even though the top two teams advanced, it was amazing to see LSU edge out No. 2 Florida for the second time this season by a score of 197.4750 – 197.4000.
