LSU Tigers’ Angel Reese emerging as a mega-star
By John Fye
The world cannot get enough of Angel Reese. Indeed, the LSU Tigers women’s basketball star is blossoming as a pop culture icon.
Angel Reese debuted as a model in Sports Illustrated’s 2023 swimsuit issue. Social media previews include the LSU Tigers star forward in fiery, bikini-clad photos. Of course, one might disapprove of such objectification of women athletes. However, there is no denying the mainstream media cannot get enough of Reese.
News of Reese’s swimsuit photo shoot comes days after she posted photos of her Bayou Barbie photoshoot on Twitter.
Reese is making the most of her on-court success by developing her off-the-court personality. Few can blame her as Reese is as marketable as any athlete in their respective sport. On3 currently lists Angel Reese as top grossing women’s college basketball athlete with a $1.4 million NIL valuation. Her NIL deals include Sports Illustrated, Mercedes-Benz of Baton Rouge, JanSport, Raising Cane’s, Intuit TurboTax, Coach, McDonald’s, and Sonic.
Now, the question is, how much bigger will Angel Reese’s celebrity grow? The LSU Tigers forward is the early favorite to lead her team to another national championship in 2024. Reese is also a lock for the 1st overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft.

Few anticipated Angel Reese would invade pop culture after she transferred to LSU from Maryland a year ago. However, Reese quickly established herself as the center of gravity of LSU basketball, anchoring the women’s team to an unexpected national championship. Now, LSU projects to unseat South Carolina as the women’s college basketball powerhouse program.
Recently, the LSU Tigers added transfers Hailey Van Lith for Louisville and Aneesah Morrow from DePaul. However, few will dispute Lith and Morrow was attracted to Baton Rouge because of Reese.
The LSU Tigers are building a women’s college basketball dynasty, and Angel Reese is predominantly the reason such is possible. She is a sure-fire superstar.
